Update on Melbourne and Sydney Yoga Expo
YOGA EXPO 2008 www.yogaexpo.com.au
Come as one, bring two. Share happiness. Introduce your friends to yoga.
The essence of yoga is union. Practicing yoga gives rise to a sense of being connected with all others - in effect to become 'at one' with them. The main aim of Yoga Expo is to help bring about this sense of oneness within the yoga community and within the community as a whole.
When we are 'at one' we can connect with ourselves and our natural reaction is to share the joy of this connection with others. Therefore, the Yoga Expo¹s theme this year is for all yoga practitioners to come in a mood of oneness, of unity, but to bring along other friends to share in the joyful experience. In other words to 'come as one and bring two', to 'share happiness and introduce your friends to yoga'.
YOGA EXPO MELBOURNE 2008
This year Yoga Expo, in addition to its regular Sydney schedule is also being held in Melbourne. We are excited by early indications that the Melbourne Yoga Expo promises to be every bit as successful as the Sydney Expo. Yoga in Melbourne has a long history and enormous depth. Dare we say it that Melbourne Yogi's may even take their yoga more seriously than their Sydney counterparts? Could the particular strengths and energies of these two cities even be reflected in their respective practice of yoga? We hope so.
The date for the Melbourne Yoga Expo is:
Sunday, August 31st at the Melbourne Showgrounds, Flemington.
The date for the Sydney Yoga Expo is:
Sunday, October 19th at Wharf 8, Darling Harbour.
We look forward to seeing you there.

The hour is getting late
Author: David Spratt
Yoga teaches us to become aware and make changes but too often we limit the scope of our transformation to ourselves. Yet, as David Spratt suggests if we take seriously the yoga teachings, we must face the inconvenient truth of global warming and become active in efforts to avoid climate catastrophe.
Yoga teaches that ignorance — of ourselves and of the world — is painful; attachment and emotional resonances draw a veil over our perceptions. The first verse of chapter two of the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali says that discipline, study and surrender constitute the practice of yoga.

The magic sounds of harmonic
Author: Dean Frenkel
The magic sounds of harmonic overtone singing can be described as other-worldly, pre-ancient and angelic. It is a ventriloquistic form of singing with many names to it: throat singing, split-tone singing, overtone singing, harmonic singing, polyhonic singing, and with traditional names, khoomei (Mongolian), Katajjaq (Inuit), and English translations, 'the rubbing of voices' (Xhosa) and 'throat music' (Nagaland).
It is a unique form of singing for a number of reasons. It vocally instrumentalises rather than sings songs. People can sing multiple tones with their singular voices and throw their voices. The singer has to draw out the resonance of the space to make the harmonics audible. There is also a special listening component to it. But it is the quality and the characteristics of the multiple tones which is truly amazing.
